Seat-Saw

The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected conventional modes of interaction between families, friends, and colleagues. While social distancing has created more physical separation between us, this project challenges the notion that social distancing is synonymous with isolation. Designed as part of a campus-wide initiative at Cornell, this project proposes new ways of safely gathering, connecting, and socializing.

Seat-Saw is an interactive furniture piece designed to keep participants safe as they rock, lounge, and socialize. The seat can be occupied in two ways. A single user can relax across the top surface or two users can sit on opposite ends ensuring six feet of separation. As movements are translated across the object, the simple act of sitting becomes a dynamic and engaging activity.
